The Woven Life of Louise Bourgeois
Who isn’t familiar with the monumental black spider by Louise Bourgeois (1911–2010), a sculpture which stands 30 feet tall in the original? Probably less well known, however, is the story of the artist’s life, from growing up as a girl in Paris to becoming a renowned artist in New York. She was introduced to tapestries at an early age and taught to weave by her mother. Maternal love and the weaver’s craft inspired her throughout her artistic career. Her story is told by Amy Novesky in the (children’s) book Cloth Lullaby. The Woven Life of Louise Bourgeois and accompanied by wonderful illustrations by Isabelle Arsenault.
