This documentary by Philippe Piquet and Thomas Isler paints a very personal portrait of Ernst Beyeler (1921–2010). We are introduced to the Basel art dealer, initiator of the Basel Art Fair, and founder of the Fondation Beyeler museum through the eyes of his international associates, colleagues and friends, all of whom talk about his infectious enthusiasm for art and artists, and his great store of experience and knowledge.
Ernst Beyeler’s passion for art touched everyone who met him and convinced them of the importance of his mission. The documentary also visits the places where Ernst Beyeler pursued his career, from his modest study in the Beyeler Gallery in Basel to the magnificent spaces of the Fondation Beyeler museum, the crowning achievement of his career. We also accompany Ernst Beyeler as he picks out and talks about individual works in his collection.
