Description

Hans Arp in seinem Atelier in Meudon, ca. 1957

Ernst Scheidegger was just a young man when he was introduced to Hans (Jean) Arp through his contact with Georges Vantongerloo. The two met in 1949, on the occasion of the exhibition Les Premiers Maîtres de l’Art Abstrait at the Galerie Maeght in Paris. The pictures Scheidegger took in Arp’s studios in Paris and Meudon testify to the friendship they enjoyed. Although Scheidegger never knew Sophie Taeuber-Arp, who had died in 1943, he documented her living and studio space, as it remained after her death, in photographs.
