The Belgian born, New York-based artist, Harold Ancart (*1980, Brussels, Belgium), works in various media including painting, drawing, prints, photography and sculpture. He depicts subjects that naturally invite contemplation, such as the horizon, clouds, flowers, flames, or plants, as in this Edition – an image of imposing tropical flora that is at once individual blades of grass and a clump of skyscrapers extending above the horizon. This Edition is part of a series of framed, Ukiyo-e style woodcut prints that Ancart made in partnership with the print publisher Ordinary Flame and produced in collaboration with the renowned Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints. The series was supervised by the Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Woodcut Printing and printed on Echizen kizuki hosho washi paper made by Living National Treasure Ichibei Iwano.
