Description

Henri Rousseau

To stand in front of originals and look at art one-to-one is always a very special experience. To keep the impressions of your visit fresh in your mind and art a presence in your daily life, too, the Fondation Beyeler offers a variety of products featuring reproductions of works from the exhibition. The selection ranges from cards, posters and notebooks to scarves, cups, glasses and more. These products are also wonderfully suited as stylish gifts for art-loving friends and relatives.

Henri Rousseau’s position as a painter in Paris around 1900 might be summed up by the title of this work: The Hungry Lion Throws Itself on the Antelope. Having been the butt of ridicule and scorn in the late 1800s, at the start of the 1900s Henri Rousseau found himself a revered artist of the avant-garde. His breakthrough came in 1905 with The Hungry Lion.
