Art in action
Untitled begins with a collage of cloth and cardboard. Employing the techniques of Action Painting and working with the support flat on the floor, Jackson Pollock built up his composition out of several layers of paint. The last stage in the process was to drip or pour paint directly from the brush, tube or can, in circular gestures – a technique invented by Pollock . The work thus becomes a protocoll documenting the actions made by the artist. Jackon Pollock’s painting undisputably marked a radical break with tradition in its day.
