Dubuffet’s L’Hourloupe series reached a high point in the theatre piece Coucou Bazar. The artist thereby liberated painting from the rigid frame, transferred it to the stage and awakened his fantastical figures to life. Coucou Bazar was premiered in Paris in 1973 by performers in L’Hourloupe costumes and with a set consisting of huge L’Hourloupe sculptures. Dubuffet named one of these stage elements Le Boute en Train, a French phrase meaning someone who is a “live wire” or the “life and soul of the party”. The present pendant by Gems & Ladders, in collaboration with the Fondation Dubuffet, recreates the playful and dynamic silhouette of the original figure.
Le Boute en Train is available in a limited 18-carat gold edition of 15 and is cut by hand.
