Minimal and unique: the candlestick by Zumthor

Peter Zumthor’s architecture can be assigned primarily to minimalism, something also true of the design of this candlestick. For Alessi, the famous Swiss architect has developed a form that is machined from a single block of aluminum. Zumthor considers this easily overlooked detail the most important point of all: the turning process namely makes each candlestick unique and gives it the identity of a genuine mechanical part. The candlesticks are produced singly in the workshop and finished with a matt brushed surface.
