Description
The man who gave new facets to light
The catalogue presents the life and work of the painter Giovanni Segantini (1856–1899), a Divisionist and Symbolist artist who was fascinated by the effects of light. Major paintings and drawings from all phases of Segantini’s career are reproduced in high-quality illustrations. Scholarly essays pay tribute in particular to the artist’s significance as a rejuvenator of landscape painting and a pathfinder for modernism. Ulf Küster, for example, discusses Segantini’s importance and place within art history and looks at the artists who inspired him. Diana Segantini, Giovanni’s great-granddaughter, writes a very personal essay on the artist’s reverence for nature as reflected in his diaries and letters.
