A table poetically laid

The philosophy of slowness has found many adherents, not just in the sphere of food. It is a major theme in the manufacture of other products, too, such as those issuing from the studio of Isobel Sippel. As in the case of Slow Food, the South African textile designer pays homage to the traditional ways of making things by hand, whether painting, dyeing or sewing. There is a certain poetry, she says, in working slowly with the best quality fabrics: it is a process of weaving together dreams and memories. Thus her tablecloths, napkins and tea towels are not just tablecloths, napkins and tea towels: they are unique pieces in which a love of detail and a passion for beautiful objects instantly strike the eye and become palpable with every touch.
