On the occasion of the “Niko Pirosmani” exhibition, renowned contemporary artists Thea Djordjadze and Andro Wekua were invited to contribute to the presentation of Pirosmani’s works in Basel. Their two resulting installations offer a contemporary take on different aspects of Pirosmani’s art.

The Georgian-born, Berlin-based artist Thea Djordjadze studied at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts from 1988 to 1993. In 1994 she continued her training in Amsterdam, before moving in 1995 to Germany, where she completed a further course of study under Rosemarie Trockel at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf.

Djordjadze’s artistic oeuvre chiefly comprises installations and sculpture, but also encompasses painting, photography, drawing, video works, performance and music recordings. The Art Edition Untitled (2023), a digital print in a limited edition of 24 copies, was created within the context of the current exhibition. Available exclusively at the Fondation Beyeler, each print is numbered and hand signed by the artist.
