South-African artist Marlene Dumas (*1953 in Cape Town) is one of contemporary art’s most prominent painters. Since the 1970s, she has produced a wide array of paintings, drawings, collages and objects. Beginning in the 1980s, she has been focussing mainly on figurative representations in oil on canvas as well as watercolour and ink on paper. Displaying a multiplicity of approaches, her works deal with the human figure and with existential themes.
ANSICHTEN no. 19 provides in-depth insights into Marlene Dumas’ work. Key topics include: characteristics and specificities, interesting facts, uncharted territories and issues of interpretation.
ANSICHTEN is aimed at art lovers and teachers looking to engage in greater depth with the works of the Fondation Beyeler.
The journal also features a practical section, which presents ideas, tasks and experiments that may be carried out at the museum, at school or at home.
ANSICHTEN playfully provides readers with thorough knowledge of the works of the Beyeler Collection.
