Description

Claude Monet

Each work of art is an original which is part of what makes it so special. The disadvantage, however, is that the work cannot be in several places at once. As a way of allowing us to look at paintings outside as well as inside the museum, the Fondation Beyeler creates high-quality fine art prints of selected works. The masterpieces are printed on high-quality papers that are resistant to ageing. Find your favourite work in the Shop and enjoy it within your own four walls!

Claude Monet apprenticed with outdoor painter Eugène Boudin, among others, then in 1859 began studying in Paris. Here he made the acquaintance of Pissarro, Bazille, Sisley, and Renoir. During the first Impressionist exhibition in Paris in 1874, his painting “Impression, soleil levant” led critics to ridicule him by calling him an “impressionist”, thus giving an identity to one of the most important art movements of the 19th century.
