Untitled #414, 2003
Black and white zigzags clash with a colourful comic landscape: Jaguar Parade is part of a series of 12 paintings that slowly evolve or transform from complete abstraction to complete figuration. Claudia Comte brings to the foreground what is normally in the background, the environment becomes the leading character in this work. These abstracted fragments of the comic world are pictured interspersed with Claudia Comte’s more familiar dizzying graphic patterning. Her love for comics from around the world, mixed with her interest in minimalism made this experiment more than just a series of paintings.
