Description

Artistic accessories

The large pastel painting Three Dancers (Blue Skirts, Red Bodices) in the Beyeler Collection is one of some 1,500 representations of ballet dancers in Degas’ oeuvre. Executed around 1903, it fascinates the viewer with its subtle dissolution of forms and its play of colors. This foulard, which nestles gently around the neck, is made of top-quality silk georgette and feels soft and comfortable against the skin. The edges are finished in the intricate mano-macchina technique, combining machine and hand embroidery. The silk print reproduces the original painting in all its subtle nuances of color.
