Art dealer, gallery owner, collector and museum founder: Ernst Beyeler's life was extraordinary. In the turbulent years after the Second World War, he established personal friendships with artists such as Picasso and Giacometti and earned an international reputation with his eye for high-quality art. To his home town of Riehen, Beyeler bequeathed one of the most attractive museums in the world.
In this documentary, family members, friends, business partners and achritect Renzo Piano remember Ernst Beyeler as they knew him. Old photographs and video material round out the story of how Ernst Beyeler rose from modest circumstances to become one of the world's greatest art dealers.
