Postcards, invitations, photos, timetables, recipes, shopping lists—fridge doors are home to a regular culture of remembrance. So it is only natural that they should pay homage to art, too. The magnets featuring works from the Beyeler Collection are particularly eye-catching and turn every fridge into a miniature art gallery.
The Fondation Beyeler is devoting a comprehensive solo show to the internationally renowned artist Jeff Wall (b. 1946). It is the first such show of his work in Switzerland in almost two decades and has been created in close collaboration with the artist. Since the late 1970s Wall has contributed significantly to establishing photography as an autonomous medium and is regarded as the founder of “staged photography”. The Canadian mostly generates large-format photographs intricately and subtly composed from numerous individual shots: often inspired by daily life and art history, his images resemble carefully crafted film stills.

Between 12 and 25 August 2024, we will be installing our next collection display (on view from 26 August) and our large Matisse retrospective (on view from 22 September).
During this time, the museum, the Art Shop and the «Beyeler Restaurant im Park» will remain closed. We look forward to welcoming you again once the installation work has been completed.
