Humboldt Current interprets a cold current in the Pacific Ocean and is an intriguing example of the way that Max Ernst worked. Here he placed a wooden board behind his canvas and allowed the pattern of the grain to come through. Allowing nature itself to play an active part in Ernst’s reproduction of nature. The poster captures the strong colors of the original.
To stand in front of originals and look at art one-to-one is always a very special experience. To keep the impressions of your visit fresh in your mind and art a presence in your daily life, too, the Fondation Beyeler offers a variety of products featuring reproductions of works from the exhibition. The selection ranges from cards, posters and notebooks to scarves, cups, glasses and more. These products are also wonderfully suited as stylish gifts for art-loving friends and relatives.

Between 12 and 25 August 2024, we will be installing our next collection display (on view from 26 August) and our large Matisse retrospective (on view from 22 September).
During this time, the museum, the Art Shop and the «Beyeler Restaurant im Park» will remain closed. We look forward to welcoming you again once the installation work has been completed.
