The idea of cutting up a picture into small pieces, and then having fun trying to reassemble it again, is over 250 years old. In our digital present, too, jigsaw puzzles have lost none of their appeal, either for children or for adults. Doing a jigsaw of one of the works from the Fondation Beyeler collection is a particularly enjoyable way of getting to know a painting in detail.
Paul Klee (1879–1940) is one of the major artists in the Beyeler Collection. Born in Switzerland, most of his training and artistic career took place in Germany. With his vast and wide-ranging body of work as well as countless written documents, he left behind a significant legacy. His distinctive visual language, which he kept developing well into his late work, fascinates viewers to this day.
