Dream Bed

Carsten HÖLLER (*1961) with Adam HAAR (*1992)
Dream Hotel Room 1: Dreaming of Flying with Flying Fly Agarics, 2024

During the exhibition, visitors may sleep in the Dream Hotel Room 1 (1 person only). Once a week, it is possible to spend the entire night from Friday to Saturday in the «Dream Bed». The experience lasts from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. and can only be booked online. In order to make this night at the museum affordable for all budgets, prices will vary. Museum security staff will provide fresh bedlinen.

The «Dream Bed» is a robot, which moves during the visitor’s sleep. Dreams are detected via sensors in the mattress, which measure the heart rate, breathing and movements. These readings are not recorded. The different sleep stages and dreaming intensities are synchronised with the movements of the bed. As the visitor falls asleep and awakes, a redly gleaming reproduction of a mushroom rotates above the bed.
